How to remove red clay stains
( especially from the cuffs of pants!!)
First you want to wet the area with your steam gun and then you want to apply Tergit,
which is Laidlaw's neutral lubricant.
After tamping or brushing( depending on the fabric) you will need to flush with your steam
gun.
Next you want to apply Tergit again but this time apply Wetspo with it.
Again tamp or brush and then flush out with your steam gun.
You may have to repeat this 2 or 3 times but this simple formula should remove most of the
red clay stain from the fabric.
Sometimes the red clay is stubborn and a little will remain behind. To take care of this
simply take 1 tablespoon of sodium perborate and put it in 6 ounces of hot water.
Obviously if you are using a 12 ounce spotting bottle just double the formula. Apply this
mixture to the stained area and fog with your steam gun before you flush it out. This
should do the trick but once in awhile you
will get a real stubborn one and this is what you will need to do.
WARNING: THE REST OF THIS FORMULA IS ADVANCED SPOTTING.
TEST---TEST---TEST!!!!!
If you are lucky enough to be working on a white garment you can use a little chlorine
bleach ( be careful on silks and never on white wool), apply, fog and flush.
If you are working on a colored garment then try sodium bisulfate and follow the same
procedure. Remember TEST---TEST---TEST!!!!
The above formula was submitted by Jeff Davis who is the Laidlaw rep.in the Carolinas.
Jeff has had plenty of chances to work on red clay. Jeff also credits Martin Young of
Young's cleaners in the Carolinas for fine tuning this formula.
