Application/IssueMoisture from spotting chemicals, detergents and garments accumulate in the dry cleaning solvent, be it perchlorethylene or hydrocarbon in nature.
Sebaceous soil, generated from bodily excrement and containing short chain, free fatty (butyric and valeric) acids, migrates towards and acidulates this moisture leading to a multitude of cleaning system issues inclusive of corrosion to the machine, poor detergency, garment malodors, and swales.
While the distillation process is performed to remove system impurities and water, azeotropic reactions typically allow for certain amounts of boil-over causing moisture and other impurities to recirculate through the separator in the solvent/water interphase and return to the clean tank. Distillation degrades and ultimately destroys solvent stabilizers added in the manufacturing process, again allowing solvent to become more acidic and likewise corrosive.
Drycleaning detergents function better in an alkaline environment and therefore numerous benefits to the cleaning operation would be derived from a method/additive that could control acid formation and combat certain of the residual affects of destabilized solvent systems.
Solution:Laidlaw Buff is a slow release, powdered solvent additive which through various functions, provides significant and immediate benefits to the drycleaning operation.
This product will react with unstable fatty acids to neutralize and modify the cleaning systems pH. In so doing, the source of odor, system corrosion, swales and garment ornamentation tarnishing can be eliminated.
Laidlaw Buff will effectively deodorize and at the same time, reodorize the cleaning system. By upward adjustment of system pH, the cleaning effect of detergent additives will significantly enhanced. Laidlaw Buff also contains a new development in anti-static technology and with routine use, static electricity can be virtually eliminated. This inhibition/elimination of static electricity will also lead to a reduction in garment linting. Laidlaw Buff by virtue of its reaction with system impurities will form filterable, insoluble compounds that would otherwise pass through system filtration systems; however it will not clog filters, nor will it affect filter life in an excessive fashion. Laidlaw Buff essentially empowers the filter to be more effective in contaminant removal. Usage: Laidlaw Buff is fed to an empty machine through the door at a rate of 3-5 oz per 50lb machine capacity. System solvent is brought up and circulated throughout for 4-5 minutes. Solvent is dropped and machine is ready for use and dosed for approximately 400 lbs. of subsequent cleaning. Summary: Laidlaw Buff will provide the following immediate benefits to the drycleaning operation.
